RE: What Makes You Believe /You/ Are Therian?

I think It's because of my trauma, Ilzoation, and just, not fitting in with any human around me, if you get the jist. when I was young. But even when I was little little. I always felt like I had a deeper connection to cats. I would watch Yt videos on warrior cats, or watch documentaries and always think "Hey, that kinda feels like me!" If that makes any sense. But Im also not exactly sure what makes me a Therian. I am still on a hella big path of discovery so thats what I think. I also believe in reincarnation, But I don't think My soul used to be an animal.

Does that make sense?

Makes perfect sense to me!!

Introspection is a process, and not all of these questions will have immediate, cohesive answers.

I also believe in reincarnation, and I haven’t considered how that might connect with my own therianthropy … so thank you for giving me something to think about as well!

So … perhaps I am in a minority here, but — I do not think there is any one explanation for therianthropy, just like I do not think there is any one explanation for sexuality, or gender identity, or any other such individual facet of one’s self. We experience and are influenced by so many different things, perspectives, & people throughout our lives; I find it reductive to attribute any one thing about yourself to any one other thing about your life. Reality, and personality, just doesn’t work like that.

That is not to say there’s no place for theory! There’s tons of space for theory. And I’d like to invite you all to tell me why you think you are therianthropic.

For me, I openly attribute isolation from, lack of socialization with, and trauma caused by humans from an early age to me identifying as & seeking community with other nonhumans. All of these things are related to my autism and PTSD, but I would not consider those the source of my therianthropy; rather, I consider them external factors that led me to discovering my therianthropy.

My therianthropy itself, I feel, is more psychological than spiritual, yes — but I also feel that it is innate. I can’t tell you why I feel, think, and do some of the things that I do; whether I was predisposed from birth to be this way, or if I would have been different had I been a happier child — but I’m inclined to think that, whatever it is, it was Always inside of me, inside of my brain, my heart, what many would call my ‘soul.’

My two-spirit identity also ties into this. Rather than a human male and human female spirit, I feel a vague, ambiguous animal spirit & an even vaguer and more ambiguous human spirit live inside of me.

That said — those are just my influences and self-interpretations!

What are yours? ^_^

If you wear a tail or collar you are generally likely to get bullied by your peers who will see it as a sign of not fitting in. This is simply the way teenagers behave and has nothing to do with you being a therian.

If you're worried about it, don't wear a tail or collar in public. Problem solved.

Thank you for the bump Dust, this is a good one.
Usually it's fine to care what other people think of you, especially for us, therians. For me personally therianthropy is a privacy information and anyone who isn't my close friend irl shouldn't know about it. Because this makes no difference in sense of 99% of activities, and other 1% aren't their business.
If you're trying to show everyone who you are, no one cares. Australopithecuses in our society can potentially be a therian haters (hunters?I don't think so) and they may care in a negative way about your weird look.
Privacy is a key to happiness. Gl.

I thought about some therians that wished to have animal rights instead of human one. In this case, it can be used to hunt you down, so another advice is "to be human" by the law.

RE: Why is the Therian/Kin community important to you?
Posted in: Introduction to Therianthropy Posted by: WolfWisp - 2023-03-27 10:30

Although I'm not new to therianthropy, I've never really been involved in the community much. I wanted to change that and find other like-minded people, especially as I find my experiences hard to describe to non-therians. I'm also trying hard to come out of my shell more; I'm a very socially anxious person, and that's caused me to keep my experiences to myself for a long time.

Coming here has made me realise that not only are there are plenty of people just like me, there are also lots of different and interesting opinions of all kinds of topics. It really makes me want to engage and get to learn about and become involved in the community.

For me, I don't have any therian friends to talk to about therian stuff, here there's (obviously) lots of other therians and otherkin who I can talk to about my experiences who I know will want to listen, will share my experiences and be accepted for who I am without question. That's not something you find in many other places.

There's a lot to learn from everyone here too, especially some of the older members of the community who have identified as they have for years, and know everything there is to know about therianthropy and share their own views and beliefs about it, and just life in general. Big Grin

i think that being a therian or otherkin can be incredibly isolating for most people in their everyday life, so community spaces (especially big online ones, such as this) means that some of that isolation is alleviated. engaging with this community means connection and a space where i don't have to worry about judgement because of my inner feelings. it's so difficult to find other people with these experiences, and the community allows for a place to meet others and discuss our experiences without worrying people thinking we're weird for it all.
