I would like to touch base on Therianthropy and what y'all think Therianthropy is about. I've seen a lot of misinformation going on, rather it be on social media or in person/real life. I really wanna explain my thoughts of Therianthropy and what it is and what it means. I would like other's in the Therian/Alterhuman community to reply to this thread to know what y'all think/know about Therianthropy. Now getting into the post itself.

The way I think of Therianthropy is an Identity. I could be wrong but with the couple of months that I have been awakened as a therian and the research I have done, I think of Therianthropy as an Identity. An identity of a person who identifies as an animal on a non-physical level. Also you can't just chose to be a therian, you are born as one. I would like to point out that there are a lot of fakers and some of the time those fakers turn up to be haters.

I have also seen a good bit of therian creators for a while now that base their whole channel around quads and gear, you do NOT need to have gear or be able to do quads or vocals to be a therian. Most people do that type of stuff to feel more connected to their theriotype(s). Not doing quads or vocals and not having any gear does not make you any less valid.

I would like to point out that you can't "quit" being a therian just like how you can't chose to be one. I really would like to point out that a lot of people don't know what therianthropy is or they have been told something that is not true, if you come across someone that has been told something that is not true don't suspect that they are a fake therian just teach them more about therianthropy.

I don't know what else to put so this is it for now. Your opinions would be highly appreciated.

Yeah, my identity means a lot to me, many who base their channel around quads seem to see it as a simple aesthetic, it's a bit frustrating when people assign an aesthetic to the whole of our community.

Yes, I agree. While i like seeing people expressing themselves it gets annoying because that's what people are starting to know us by. Quads and gear and vocals are not a bad thing but I would like to see more channels talk about what therianthropy actually is.

I think people should be accepting of people who awakened at all ages although people who awakened at around 8 usually grow out of it.

Posted in: Introduction to Therianthropy Posted by: LavenderWobbleDragon - 2024-08-09 22:52

Yeah, I've always felt a draconic part of my identity, but I found this community through YouTube tiktok comps. But since I was on youtube, I found some helpful channels that helped me learn. I eventually found my way here. I learned terms through the internet but I questioned my identity on my own. I eventually found my way here. I was also smart enough to know how much misinfo was on tiktok and shorts. I only got here recently and I'm already so glad I'm a part of the real therian community.

Also another thing, whenever the tiktok therian community tries to handle drama that's outside the tiktok community it's always disastrous. Like with therian territory, this is why young children shouldn't handle this stuff, as someone who's only 13 I wouldn't trust myself to do it. Thank goodness they didn't handle the lycantheory controversy.

I just got here, as a pup who knows people who were grooming victims (luckily never been a victim) I agree!

I heard reports by some therians who favor the word nonhuman over the other one, alterhuman. It's just a small discrepancy I would like to stress just this once, so I hope you don't mind. Otherwise, posting this was more than okay.

I just need clarification on what an alterhuman is exactly. As for the rest, I consider this post to be quite brave for a young user.

Alterhuman is a catchall umbrella term for non-human (human in the traditional singlet way) identities in the same way LGBTQIA2+ is for sexualities. Some like it some feel it is too broad and lacks meaning. i think its merits can be better discussed elsewhere though.

So now you have a lot of misinformed "therian" showing other impressionable kids what therianthropy is (isn't) but there's little to no education about them, to the point where therianthropy becomes nothing more than an aesthetic.

It's really damaging to the community! I had my therian awakening about five years ago now, I didn't discover therianthropy through TikTok or YouTube. I heard someone talking about this new term they found used to describe furries (therian) and I did my own research into what therianthropy was. That was before the mess on tiktok started. If I had my awakening back then I would have been led astray and probably wouldn't have discovered the true meaning to the word 'Therian,' I would have fallen for the cat mask nature girl aesthetic and grew out of it.

I'm tired of all the cat masks, and I know if makes a lot of people happy. But to be the new face of therianthropy is not good!! When someone who doesn't know what they are does their own research, I don't want them to see some girls wearing masks. It really doesn't help the 'Therians are furries who took it too far' idea.. Sorry if this offends anyone.

Do what you want, be who you are, dress how you like. But please remember to educate people properly! There's so much misinformation it's unreal. There's so many people who think therianthropy is a hobby Sad

Sorry, vent over

This! Absolutely this! Iā€™m tired of the cat masks and quads. We need a face of therianthropy that *actually* represents therianthropy, not that.

RE: What does ā€˜ doing research ā€˜ mean to you ?
Posted in: Introduction to Therianthropy Posted by: Cygnus - 2024-07-21 13:04

Research to me is probably something different..

I didn't actively research anything at the beginning to figure out what I was.. I knew that I was significantly different from everyone I had ever met and that I wasn't exactly what they were seeing me as..but I didn't know what that was exactly, and I didn't give it much thought until I saw a form that looked just like me in a book and then I knew that somehow that's what I was, and things began to make sense for the first time.

After that I began reading about mythologies from various cultures to try to find explanations for my experiences, and to see if there were historical mentions of people like me. That evolved into focusing on Eastern Mythology and Philosophy which I later took coursework in college for. I also studied Psychology, Physiology, Physics, and various other fields between my work and university studies as I got older. These are useful when it comes to reality-testing and weeding out mundane yet not commonly known aspects of human development and the world around us.

I've tried to avoid researching too much into animal behavior for the reasons others have mentioned..I needed to know that my behavior was genuine and self-originating. Most of us discover ourselves relatively young, and the mind is highly suggestible at that point, so if you search for something hard enough you'll likely find a way to see it in yourself(even adults can do this..). Things that are real will still be there when you don't look for them, and you'll probably be forced to recognize them eventually because they won't go away. They will also likely have a significant impact on your daily life in some way (some good, some bad).

Tldr: You don't need to use the Force, Luke..just your patience.
