What is Therianthropy, the Definitive Stance of Therian-Guide

I wanted the title to cut directly to my point. I post this thread since there's been discussion of late about new terms being created to describe something that is basically already the definition of therianthropy (ex: holotheres).
We feel there needs to be a solid definition to what therianthropy is since everyone seems to have their own meaning for it nowadays and that makes it really difficult to create resources.

This stance is not to say that we know everything about the therian experience, and we know that people might disagree. Since therianthropy is such a personal internal experience, it is often difficult to explain clearly, and that will always lead to things being misunderstood, poorly explained, or just difficult to put into words. It's also possible, even common in some people, to not fully understand the internal self and thus misinterpret or miss things. They might not come to understand their experiences until much later in life.

Also keep in mind that since TG is about therianthropy, this post is only about therianthropy. Aspects of it may apply to otherkin and other parts of the alterhuman community, but the focus of this post, and website, is therianthropy.

So what is therianthropy actually?
Therianthropy is the internal state of being a non human animal (example: psychologically, or spiritually, but never physically). From this state of being, this innate sense of Self, traits, instincts, urges, and other behaviors flow naturally, leading to the therian experience. This can include shifts (mental, phantom, sensory, etc, but never physical), but doesn't always. This innate sense of being is key and what makes the experiences which stem from it therian experience vs just a human experiencing such things. It is the passive receipt and perception of what we consider to be animal experiences, and the knowledge of what one innately is. It can be a sense, perception, or "knowing" that what one sees in the mirror is not what we truly are underneath, and even though it is innate, it may not always be known to the one experiencing it. What can be covered under therianthropy is broad, but this core idea is one we all share: a distinct experience that we are not, or not entirely, human.

How therianthropy manifests is somewhat broad, and different people experience it differently. There will never be a one sized fits all explanation of how and why exactly people experience therianthropy, and I don't think it's helpful to try to make a definition which does, or to make countless micro labels when the best way to explain what one is experiencing is to just.. explain what one is experiencing. So this definition here is to capture the most basic and core essence of what a therian is rather than the myriad of ways a person can experience it. For information about that, well, see the entirety of this forum.
