I think Shmi meant by that was research animals until there's no more animals to research. Find out about every likely canididate so you can match up what fits you best.

And also, there's no end to it. You will constantly, constantly have to keep learning and finding out new things, analyzing yourself, etc.

So yeah that's what I think she meant.
