  Updating Rule 8
Posted in: Announcements Posted by: Bagera - 2025-05-04 19:31

Yes, yet another announcement about a rule. Since making rule 24, we've been in discussions with many of the systems on the site about how to make this a welcoming space for everyone, within reason. We've updated rule 24 to allow mention within journals, and that can be seen in the announcement before this one.

Rule 8, for those who aren't familiar with it, read as such: 8. Only one account per person. You are not allowed to share your account to other people, if they want in they have to sign up for their own accounts. You are also forbidden from creating more than one account for your own use (except temporarily when allowed by a staff member to recover a lost account). When speaking, do not suffix alter names. Speak as you would normally in real life, when meeting a stranger.

This rule was made years ago due to people constantly spamming alter changes, and the same person would also pin blame on their alters for bad behavior. It came off as someone making the whole thing up in order to dodge responsibility.

The updated rule 8 is as follows: Only one account per body. You are not allowed to share your account to other people, if they want in they have to sign up for their own accounts. You are also forbidden from creating more than one account for your own use (except temporarily when allowed by a staff member to recover a lost account). For people who are required to share an account due to being systems the account is treated as one person for moderation purposes and will by subject to appropriate consequences regardless of alter. When speaking, do not suffix alter names. Speak as you would normally in real life, when meeting a stranger. Stating what alter you are at the start of a conversation or when asked directly is allowed, as long as you do not repeatedly suffix every message.
An example: "Hey Susan, how are you today?"
"Oh, it's Alison right now, but I'm doing well"
-they both continue the discussion normally and without bringing it up again-

This allows you to express who is fronting once, to avoid confusion. As per rule 24, you are still not allowed to discuss plurality, DID and such outside of designated spaces, but just mentioning your name is fine.

This rule also changes things to make people accountable for their actions. It does not matter who is fronting if you're a system. I don't care if the main host is Jesus of Nazareth, if someone in your system breaks the site rules and causes a problem, the account as a whole will be punished.

I hope these alterations help clear up issues, making tg a healthy and welcoming environment for everyone.

I personally only identify with one kintype as well. I am grizzly bearhearted but I wouldn’t say that I identify as one, I just identify with them! I’ll always be a Honeymala at heart.

I am a bit curious of polytherians, I wonder how you can identify as multiple species at once. I do see traits of myself in other animals like brown bats and binturongs and hares, but I wouldn’t say they’re part of my identity. Not trying to invalidate polytherians, I’m just intrigued cheep

Well, I have only one theriotype! Also one of my friends has only one, and I also watch videos of therians with one theriotype. But I really can't say if there are more therians or polytherians ahah.

As I browse the forums, I notice lots of people have multiple theriotypes. It got me thinking, am I in the minority being that I only have a single theriotype? What do you think, is it more common to have just one or multiple theriotypes?

I think to some extent, it is an aesthetic at the moment. I recently got together with an old friend, whom I have known since elementary school (we're both in our 30's now), and she really surprised me when she said her kid was in to therian stuff. I was like "whoa, you know what therians are!?" I didn't mention anything about being one, or my experiences in the community, but instead asked what animal her daughter was. I was initially thinking and expecting the community to be more like how it was when I first found it. She replied that her daughter was just really into wearing tails and making masks. So maybe her daughter is a therian, maybe she isn't, it doesn't really matter. However, it's mainstream enough now that my friend is aware of the community.

I say its fine to put TW/CWs on things, and things such as graphic descriptions of suicide, self harm, gun violence, just stuff that's extremely intense should be expected. I'm personally not triggered by these, but I know people who are very triggered by talk of graphic self harm.

while there is no such thing as a therian hunter, there are people who will harass and bully you in public for wearing gear, so be careful.

thanks for this! I'm thinking of starting a therian journal, and all of this makes a lot of sense.

the amount of misinformation on tiktok is honestly putting actually newly awakened therian to shame. I don't think quads or gear are very linked to it, and I honestly think that its less of a problem than some people act like it is, but its still really upsetting.

The rule as written: Plurality, DID, multiple personalities, and other like conditions are not to be discussed outside of adult spaces, with the exception of teams in which the staff member allows, and personal journals, or if the individual is seeking legitimate healthcare resources.

This has always been a loaded topic, much like politics, and almost always degrades into bickering or people invalidating others experiences. We do not wish to exclude or punish people who are legitimately experiencing these conditions, hence why we are not having a blanket ban. For the sake of peace though, we must limit these topics to designated spaces. Since staff members can change over time, if you wish to find a team which allows this as a discussion topic, feel free to post in Write to Staff and ask us.

I realize that there will people who are upset with the new rule, as there are people with every new rule, but this has really been an ongiong issue for many years now, and we would rather people with these issues to be able to talk in designated spaces safely rather then be invalidated by people who are skeptical in the public spaces. Skepticism is allowed on this site, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but when it devolves into bickering, it makes the space uncomfortable for everyone.

Thank you all for the understanding.

I really do not agree with this rule at all. You are banning discussion of a disorder because of bickering and people invalidating eachothers experiences, why do we not ban bickering and fakeclaiming instead? This is kinda like telling an autistic person to shut up because majority of neurotypical people naturally tend to dislike autistic people/favor other neurotypicals over autistic people even without knowing they're autistic.

I don't want to accuse anyone of anything, but this honestly just seems like TG is trying to erase systems and DID and deny their existence, I do not believe you're doing it to avoid systems getting hurt, because if you were I think the more logical solution was to ban fakeclaiming.

The thing about fakeclaiming is that we have no way of proving whether someone is or isn't. The fact of it all is that DID and the like is generally the result of a medical condition, and no one here is qualified to diagnose or dismiss any condition. We know that some of you are hurt by this decision, and believe me, we deliberated on it for some time. Every single active staff member, including ones who are plural themselves, voted yes on this.
We as staff need to maintain peace, and this topic always turns into bickering. That involves hard decisions that some people aren't going to like. As I said though, no one wanted to blanket ban the topic because we didn't want to shut out systems. There are just now designated spaces for it. I really don't understand why people keep glossing over that. There are places where this discussion can take place. Why is it any different than fictionkin discussion only taking place in the fictionkin forum? How is it different than any other topic on this forum being posted in their designated spaces?

why do we need to prove if someone is plural or not? I dont think we should be asking those who claim to be plural to prove that they are actually plural, unless if they state stuff that is actually like.. obviously wrong and not a part of plurality, apologies for my poor wording. I think we should just believe if someone says that they are and there's no reason to be suspicious. Not everyone has the resources to be diagnosed, and it also isn't always a good thing to be diagnosed in some places in the world.

Ik yall didn't 100% ban the discussion of systems and plurality but you did lock it behind adult spaces, even though minors can be plural. I know it's allowed in some team chats and personal journals. But why can't it just be allowed everywhere and just ban fakeclaiming?

How is making discussions about systems and plurality only being allowed in specific channels going to stop fakeclaiming and bickering. Like what's stopping someone from scrolling through random people's journals, seeing that they are a system and then fakeclaiming them? It makes it harder and more effort, but not allowing discussion of plurality and systems outside of certain areas isn't gonna stop fakeclaiming, but banning fakeclaiming would stop it because then it's literally not allowed.
