@winged

I really like this explanation! I've always loved hearing about why people are therians because the experience itself is so bizarre and interesting.

I have another little theory about why you're an angel to put out there: oftentimes children, if they spend enough time around something, it will rub off on them and they'll subconsciously adapt that identity/experience/behavior. Maybe you're an angel in some sense because angelic beings (or whatever you believe in) saw the struggle you were going through, recognized it, and tried to protect you or help. And somehow that influenced how your identity developed. Angels are such powerful, energy-charged beings that it would make sense that even the slightest interaction would alter your mind/spirit.

Thoughts?

*I'd also like to tack on at the end here: I'm sorry for you loss, I just lost someone very important to me a few days ago as well. I hope you're doing okay, let me know if there's anything I can do to support you. <3

I am not a human, I do not understand people... Who am I? I do not know who I am... Maybe I am an angel? Or a demon? So many questions.... And no answers. Help me understand why we are not like people.... Who are we?Therians. But could it be that we are some kind of aliens with a human body? Or elves? Dragons? Kitsune? Demons? Help me understand all this... I don't understand anything...

This is likely because when I was young and my household was undergoing issues, my human survival instincts weren’t working to keep me safe, therefore animal spirits somehow altered my subconscious, making my instincts more animalistic in order to keep me safe.

(Personally, my spiritual belief is that I do not understand how the otherworld works and will not until I die, but I do think that angels/spirits/ghosts/energies exist in some way, shape, or form.)

This affected my ability to function within social settings, and how I reacted to certain events. My brain gained a “survival” perspective onto mundane tasks, and everyday events.

I felt like my life would be better if i was born an animal, my human body felt wrong and was unable to do the things I wanted it to.

Um, I don't really know how to finish this, but that's why I consider myself a therian ^_^

A few important notes -

* Many of the negative experiences with therianthropy I have are also symptoms of the conditions C-PTSD or BPD. I may get a diagnosis soon of one for these soon from my therapist.

* This explains my theriotype because it was not one animal species that my instincts are inlined with, rather it was many species of animals all becoming one with me. My subconscious clinged onto cats or cat-like creatures as my theriotype, because I was already enamored with them from childhood, so that's what I label my theriotype as despite having traits of other animals.

* This also explains my angel kintype, because my subconscious was changed by animal spirits, so of course my theriotypes are also animal spirits. I’ve also considered that my angel kintype is because I’ve been exposed to trauma that felt like life or death, and maybe because of that I spiritually died, but not physically, but I’m not sure about this.

* This is not the only explanation I believe is possible for therianthropy. I think that what creates therianthropy is another part of you that is an animal, that became aligned with your humanself in some way. Some are born with it (maybe due to past lives, alternate universes, or just because that's how they were born), others acquiring it through, as I described, trauma or something else spiritually/neurologically.

* I am young and somewhat recently (two years ago) discovered my therianthropy. I’m learning more about it everyday, so this theory might change as I find out more about myself.

* This is all what I personally think! I try to keep my views about spirituality as general and open as possible because in the end, there's no way I can know anything about this for sure. Feel free to share your own thoughts!

Hopefully that makes sense, I am writing this as I am going through a (hypomanic) bipolar episode AND trying to distract myself from a loss, so forgive me if its messy :,3

I am like that too, my kitsune is dual, I am not a demon and not quite an angel, I am looking for myself, I am not a person, I do not know who I am......

It used to be that most in the community had one, but it became more common with the new generation(s?) that many assign their experiences across multiple theriotypes. I view mine as a single theriotype though I'm made up of fox and wolf; two aspects but one entity comprised of them.

This is really interesting to me. I wonder what's different about newer generations of therians? I also wonder if people in the past were more likely to hide their less dominate theriotypes to fit in? I also find your experience that the fox and wolf identities are mixed to be really interesting. Smile

Also, thanks to everyone that has shared their experiences.

In the past it was harder to find the community, so those seeking it out had usually spent a lot more time discovering themselves before they ever reached those spaces, and the general ages were older because of the requirements to get on the internet. Nowadays the ideas of therianthropy are advertised on social media and between friends at school, and there's more of this questioning period where they try to check what they are after the fact. I think a lot of the newer people are likely trying to assign every sensation and feeling they have to therianthropy, so when one doesn't fit one species' box they add more to account for it instead of getting skeptical about it. I don't there's anything really new about the different generations other than what they're exposed to and how they've learned to go about these things.

I saw at least one example of someone hiding a deer theriotype because the predominance of carnivores/wolves on AHWW made them uncomfy. Honestly, it made me sad to read..

Thanks, it took me a long time to understand that I wasn't mistaken at the beginning. I discovered my fox aspect a few years after my wolf one, and I wasn't sure what to make of it early on. ^^

I am a bit curious of polytherians, I wonder how you can identify as multiple species at once. I do see traits of myself in other animals like brown bats and binturongs and hares, but I wouldn’t say they’re part of my identity. Not trying to invalidate polytherians, I’m just intrigued cheep

Hi, Ive been waiting around till I get activated to reply to this message soo here I am!!
To answer your question.. well, I don’t know. As you can see on my profile I’m a feline and a wolf (still questioning the wolf theriotype but I’m almost sure of it already) and it sure is weird being two animals at once but that’s just how I feel like, that’s who I am. I experience canine and feline like behaviors and urges and just feel like I am both a feline and a wolf on the inside at the same time, for me the identity kinda fluctuates though. I mean I always identify as both but sometimes sth happens that makes me feel a lot more like a wolf and sometimes sth makes me feel a lot more like a cat and the other identity takes a back seat. Still, I am always both a feline and a wolf at heart. Idk how that works but it somehow does lol
Ig you can’t really fully get it unless you experience it yourself though

That's how my experience with my (questioning) theriotypes! it flucuates and sometimes i feel very strongly like a canine, and other times it flucuates and i feel like a feline, and other times I feel like a mustelid. I don't influnence this fluctuation at all, it just happens. It's nice to hear someone has has a similar experience!

Ooooh! I think I get it! Both theriotypes are a part of you, but one may present itself more than the other, sort of interchangeably. That’s actually really interesting, and don’t worry! I think you did well explaining it, I can see why you would identify as both.

Hope you didn’t have to wait around too long, I appreciate the reply! Deer Affection

Yes!! I kinda suck at explaining stuff like identities so I’m glad you got it!! ^^
