I got the staff's permission to share this video I made with Siberian Sushi for the younger and newer therians of the Therian Guide! If you're just now exploring the concept, the two may look similar on the surface. But are they?

Furries and Therians are often confused for one another through the eyes of a commoner. In this video, Sushi and I will explain to you what the differences are between a therian and a furry!

Thanks for watching!
Hey,

One thing I really liked about the research that the Furscience group did, is that it very clearly shows how the Furry and the Therian demographics are separate.

In short, Furries are 90% male; Therians are 60% female and 40% male. So if you want some trivia, statistically a Furry is more likely to be male, whereas a Therian is more likely to be female.

It has some consequences that seem obvious, such as for example how porn is a lot more acceptable in Furry communities vs Therian communities. On the other hand, animality (or being a werewolf in general) is rarely associated with the female gender in western culture, but Therians are very clearly a lot more feral than Furries.

It's interesting how that works.

Ooh, that's interesting. It's intriguing how felines are generally seen as more feminine, but in a community who're more female than male and vice versa, that canines, mostly wolves, are more commonly seen than felines.

I don't often think about furries in terms of therianthropy, but this is interesting and it makes sense. As you know, I've been curious about other statistics too and I wonder how this information meshes with what I've been looking into. Such as the correlation between therianthropy and autism, as well as viewing therianthropy as primarily psychological or spiritual. I never factored in how gender may play a part in any of this information.

From the autism perspective, the information on gender and autism is rather limited as afab and female presenting people are often critically underdiagnosed. Typically it is males who are diagnosed on the spectrum because they present in more obvious ways, yet within the community there do seem to be a lot of female diagnosis.
On the other front with psychological/spiritual, there's roots in biology as to how likely a person is to be spiritual or not. With males being less likely, and females being more likely. This has to do with the brain, but I don't remember exactly why. There was a paper on it at some point. I am curious if this would correlate with the likelihood of the sexes to see their therianthropy in a given way. I've seen it to match the stereotypes thus far (males more likely to be psychological, females spiritual), but my sample size is only a small portion of the community.

Hey,

I got some controversial opinions where I disagree with the content, but I understand why you say things as you do. Smile It's a cool video, I feel it explains things as they really are to give people a more realistic perspective of what therianthropy is like. And being a crossover it'll likely be seen by more people from outside the community, which is great. Smile

i cant get to the video because its blocked in the systum, and untill yesterday it felt like both definitions overlap. ig im not really a furry even though i wear a fursuit all the time, because in a fursuit i am acting the same way as out, i just feel more comphortable and more me being in head to toe in fur. i actualy never said i was a furry origanaly until my grandma found the suit and said that no mater what, if you have a fursuit you are a furry. i feel like i am a shape shifter actualy because my form keeps changing, but the male that im conected to never shifts forms som i think he is indeade just a hellhound/wolf. but then again when you mix werewolf with hellhound and vampire in the presintages im in, ig that you could possibley get a creature that can change its phisical apperance when it feels like it witch is why its actually hard for me to decide on what color and head type of fursuit i should get lol. side note: i am sooooo happy that i joined this group because its leading me to be able to find out so much mor because of the posts and all the wonderful members! it means so much to me!tysm
